ABOUT PAULARINO PRESCHOOL
The classroom is set up following the criteria established for the highest (Excellent) score on Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ECERS-R) rubric,as well as according to the developmental needs of the children. We utilize several curricular programs, including the Hampton-Brown Avenues (a Pre-K Language Development Program) and Houghton-Mifflin Pre-K (a Pre-K early literacy and cognitive development program) to help all children develop the skills listed in the Desired Results Developmental Profile. We utilize strategies developed by the Center for the Social-Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) to support the healthy social-emotional development of every child and establish positive classroom behavior.
Children learn the concepts and skills in the curriculum through time each day engaged in:
Large group “Meeting Time” and “Circle Time” on the carpet (calendar, music and movement, alphabet activities, and other activities)
“Story Time” in large group or small group
Independent Exploration at Learning Centers (with adults facilitating conversations with children about their activity)
Small Group Activities Guided by Adults at the Learning Centers
Outdoor Gross Motor Time
Clean-Up Time (children are involved in clean up of centers and the classroom in order to learn responsibility and organizational skills)
At Paularino Preschool, we facilitate Parent and Child Together (PaCT) Time each day. Parents and children spend 15 minutes engaging in language and literacy activities together. Each child brings home a backpack every week with engaging language and literacy activities to do at home with the family. Activities are aligned to the themes and skills in the Houghton Mifflin Pre-K curriculum.
