The Mentor For A Day date for the 2012-2013 school year is Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and Newport-Mesa Unified School District

For personal assistance with the mentor process please contact V-Esther Caldwell at (714) 424-5047. She will be happy to assist you.

Option 1 participants:  In this option student(s) will be able to accompany you to your job site, without a chaperone, to gain first hand experience in the field. 

We will make this screening process as easy and convenient as possible by providing all instructions and forms through the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Education Center. The steps are as follows:

 
I) Please come to the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Education Center at 2985-A Bear Street, Costa Mesa (Corner of   Baker and Bear)
 
  • Complete the simple volunteer registration form (download NMUSD registration form here)
  • Complete the DMV authorization form and provide proof of current auto insurance (download DMV form here)   *please bring Driver's License with you
  • Complete the authorization form for Live Scan fingerprinting. You will receive the authorization form and instructions to go to the walk-in Live Scan facility nearby once you come into the office

Time Commitment: You will be in and out of the Education Center in 10 minutes. Contact V-Esther Caldwell at (714) 424-5047 for any questions.

2) Follow the instructions/map provided in step 1 to the walk-in Live Scan facility and complete the fingerprinting process.  The Live Scan center charges $15 cash or $20 if you use a credit.
Time Commitment: The processing only takes a few minutes and wait times are usually short.
 
3) You will be contacted by NMUSD when clearance has been received and provided authorization to participate mentoring activities. No student activities can begin until you are notified.
Processing Time: Most clearances are received in three days.
 
 
Option 2: Chaperone:  A District staff member will be provided to accompany you and the student(s) to your job site. 
 

The volunteer registration form can be emailed to vcaldwell@nmusd.us faxed to (714) 424-5038, or mailed/delivered to Newport-Mesa Unified School District Education Center at 2985-A Bear Street, Costa Mesa (Corner of Baker and Bear) 

***Repeat volunteer mentors in future years will not be required to be re-fingerprinted. It is only necessary to be fingerprinted once as a volunteer by the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
 
Our dedicated community volunteers have enriched the instructional program and provided valuable life experiences to our NMUSD students.
