Summer Facility and Construction Overview

Grounds Worker

One of our District Priorities is to educate students in safe, modern facilities that support our educational program. See below for an overview of major work that occurs during the summer break:

Various Schools – Fencing

In the past few years our district began the process of installing fencing at our schools as an added security measure. Three additional schools are slated for permanent fencing installation in the summer of 2018 - Mariners, Newport Heights, and Wilson Elementary. Community meetings were hosted at each school in January, with the projects going out for construction bids soon.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning

Our district continues to make progress on the phased-in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) installation plan for all schools and district facilities. It is anticipated that HVAC will be installed at the following schools in the summer of 2018 - Davis Magnet, College Park, KaiserWilson, Pomona, and Woodland Elementary Schools.

Visit the Current Projects Website for a full schedule of HVAC installation projects. Please note that the schedule is tentative and subject to change due to varying unforeseen factors.

Deep Cleaning and Upgrades

Each summer, school campuses and classrooms are thoroughly cleaned. The intense work at every school site includes sanitizing carpets, waxing floors, power washing buildings, dusting and disinfecting all furniture and classrooms.

Along with completing general work orders for service and repairs, our district’s maintenance and operations team also provides general repairs and upgrades to many school sites. The summer work includes upgrades and repairs to parking lots, playgrounds, walkways, restrooms, water boilers and pool controls, field renovation/seeding, painting, and installation of sporting areas (such as tennis and tetherball courts), to name a few items.

Fire Repairs in the Ensign gym and locker rooms will continue through Summer and is expected to be completed by the start of the school in fall.
