Behavioral Parent Education Series

This training series is a unique educational opportunity for parents of NMUSD students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  The focus of the interactive program is to support parents in understanding the special needs of their child, providing them with information about child development, and helping parents them acquire the necessary skills that will allow them to support the implementation of their child’s IEP.  Participation in this program is determined through the IEP process.

The program is  delivered in small group format and active parent participation is encouraged. Discussion and sharing of parenting experiences is an integral part of the process of teaching parents strategies that can help their children engage in appropriate and meaningful behavior.

Previous Comments from Parent Participants:

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District's Behavioral Parent Education (BPE) course and clinics gave me a deeper understanding of how autism specifically effects my son and my family.  More importantly, they taught me scientifically based and data-proven strategies to help my son greatly improve his condition and our quality of life.  Our family is much happier and forever grateful to the BPE staff for their talent, expertise and compassion.  They have set us on a positive course on our journey through life with autism.

It was easy to understand the way you presented, and it was fun! I will miss coming here! Thank you for the resources, explanations, answering questions, examples, etc. I feel so much more a part of the team and am amazed at how much this program has developed. I am so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you so much!

Nice to have a small group to absorb more and to deal with our own specific childs needs. Love the moms who came to support.

I feel so fortunate to have been able to attend this program. The support and information was/is so helpful!

This workshop was so informative and a real eye opener for me and my relationship with my autistic son. I feel like what I learned in this workshop will be lifelong tools for my son and our family. Early intervention is the key and this class was one of the golden keys.

I love the team approach to this session since it offers many perspectives. Thank you for providing this very informative and effective program. I feel more confident and assured as a result of having practiced strategies.
