Newport-Mesa Unified School District
Board of Education K-12 Starfish Awards Program
A Recognition Program Focused on Honoring Students for Individual Accomplishments in the Areas of: Citizenship, Character Education, Volunteerism and Community Service. During the 2007/08 school year the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education established a goal to expand recognition of our students, district-wide, at board meetings and focus on individual accomplishments. The District is fortunate to have phenomenal kids and we continue to develop new approaches to recognize their wonderful talents in a wide array of areas that are not normally recognized through the typical school recognition processes. This new recognition program is called the “Starfish Award.” The goal of the program is to honor and recognize students who have made a difference by contributing a personal effort for the benefit of others. Unique to this program is the nomination process. Students are nominated by their teachers, peers and community members at large. There are many levels of accomplishments and this is our opportunity to recognize a large spectrum of students. If you know of unique and phenomenal students who currently attend one of our Newport-Mesa Unified Schools deserving of recognition for individual contributions or accomplishments in the areas of citizenship, character education, volunteerism, community service, and beyond, please take a few moments and complete the nomination form below. All nominations will be automatically sent to the Superintendent’s Office and forwarded to the Board of Education for review and selection. The Board will be honoring students at board meetings in January and June 2012.
