O.C. Music and Arts Administrators Awards

Tamara Fairbanks and Kirby Piazza were honored at the 2016 O.C. County Music and Arts Administrators Awards on Wednesday, May 4 at the Samueli Theatre at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts. Miss Fairbank's work in elementary music at Mariners and other schools, during the summer and with the Pacific Chorale Academy has led to this well deserved honor.  Mr. Piazza is a leader in visual art instruction at CMHS and across the district and spearheaded the establishment of a district-wide art showcase which happens every spring at OCC.

CdM Art Educator John Gunnin recognized in national publication

Education Week wrote an article about the new curriculum for AP Art History and used John Gunnin's class at CdM as an example.
Here is the link to the article:
"Gunnin asked the students to dissect a contemporary piece made for the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of America.... The assignment was to study the piece from political, visual, cultural, historical, societal, and economic angles."
Having students describe different parts and how those parts interact with each other to analyze and determine intent is something thoughtful teachers like John naturally do. Thanks to his knowledge and dedication, his students create amazing works of art. Every time I learn more about John's work at CdM I am impressed by his knowledge and passion for his students and for quality arts instruction.
