Newport-Mesa Unified School District Hosted Community Meeting Regarding Corona del Mar High School (CdMHS) Sports Complex

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District would like to invite you to attend a community input meeting on February 5, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Friends Meeting Room of the Newport Beach Public Library, 1000 Avocado, Newport Beach, Ca.  The District is working with the City of Newport Beach to coordinate communication with residents.  This letter is being mailed to over 3,000 resident addresses provided by the City. 

The purpose of the February 5th community meeting is to share with neighbors, parents and school staff information about plans for the Corona del Mar High School Sports Complex.  This is the first of many public input opportunities the District will provide in connection with the development of the project. 

We hope this letter will help to clarify the fact that this project is in the very early stages of planning and development.  To date, the only step that has been taken is approval of allocation of funds to the project by the Board of Education. 

The District recognizes there are many questions and concerns from residents regarding potential impact to the neighborhood.  Issues we are aware of include: parking, traffic, lighting, trash, hours and times of use.  Of course, we understand there could be more.  Our goal is to share information we have to date, listen to concerns from the community and then take all of the input and work towards a solution.  We need your help and encourage you to join us for this important information gathering meeting.

We have developed a webpage to keep community members up to date with planning and development about the project.  The webpage is located at: https://nmusd-ca.schoolloop.com/sportscomplex In addition, we ask that you visit the webpage and sign up to receive email updates from the District about the project.  Emails will be sent to all registered users when there is new information to share, public meeting notices, and pending board actions.   

Planning and Development Next Steps:
Following the community input meeting on February 5, the next step will include hiring architects and a CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) Consultant.  The CEQA process will also include an additional legally required public process.  We anticipate that the Board of Education will take action on these two planning items on February 11, 2014.
