Current Construction Projects

Overview

The Elementary School Playground Renovation Initiative represents strategic investment in safe, inclusive, accessible, and climate-responsive outdoor environment. By replacing aging playground equipment and incorporating shade structures, the district is creating spaces that support student wellness, promote equity, and enhance long-term operational efficiency across all elementary campuses.

Status

Summer 2024 construction focused on littles' playgrounds improvements (TK and Kinder defined play areas) at five elementary school sites. Summer 2025 projects expanded to seven elementary campuses and expanded the scope to primary playgrounds where applicable. All remaining elementary campuses have been evaluated and are currently in early design to access site conditions, define project scope, and develop cost feasibility to develop a construction schedule. 

Overview

The Sand Volleyball Courts are a prioritized program to provide at each comprehensive high school campus. The district is committed to expanding access to athletic programs on each campus by providing three sand volleyball courts designed to support both competitive athletics and general student use, while incorporating durable materials, efficient drainage systems, and thoughtful site integration to ensure long-term performance and ease of maintenance. 

Status

The district is currently advancing the planning and design phase for sand volleyball courts at Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, Estancia, and Newport Harbor High School. Initial efforts have focused on site evaluations, including space availability, adjacency to existing athletic facilities, and utility considerations. Design and cost analyses are underway to confirm project feasibility, with implementation anticipated in future phased construction aligned with funding availability and campus priorities.
