Current Construction Projects

Overview: 

The Theater project includes construction of a two-story, approximately 350-seat theater, including black box theater, lobby, box office, front of house support services, dressing rooms, scene shop, and costume and prop storage. The theater may also include classrooms for the music and arts programs. The project also includes improvements to landscaping, walkways, plazas, and installation of ancillary fencing for the theater.

Status as of September 2024:

The Estancia Theater roof is beginning to take shape, with the structural steel decking material being laid across the upper and lower roof. New water, sewer and storm drain underground lines have also been installed. 

The project is anticipated to be completed by Summer of 2025.

Overview

The renovation of the Newport Harbor High School varsity baseball and softball fields includes removal and replacement of grass, improvement to irrigation, regrading fields, replacing sprinkler valves for improved irrigation, and replacing chain link fence with netting.

Status as of October 2023

The project began in mid-September 2023 and is expected to be completed by February 2024 in time for the start of the sports season. Future phase of this project includes replacement of backstops for both fields.

The athletic teams impacted by the renovation of the fields are being accommodated at alternate fields at NHHS and TeWinkle Park.

Overview: 

This project includes several improvements to the Newport Harbor High School Pool 

• New bleachers, shade structures and sports lighting
• New scoreboard, including a new location
• Deepening of the pool to be mostly eight feet with the intent to accommodate two concurrent water polo activities
• Smaller section of a four-foot shallow end to accommodate community pool programs
• Replacement of pool deck
• Renovation of the pool building which includes coaches’ offices, boys and girls locker room and restrooms
• Mechanical equipment replacement, as needed

This Project is anticipated to be complete by August 2025.

Demolition of the Newport Harbor High School Pool has begun.

Overview

The location of the old pool at Estancia High School was infilled with concrete after the construction of the new aquatics center. This left the space with very little usage for the site. School administrators and district staff presented a plan to install shade structure components, landscaping and new pavers and hardscape to liven up the space and create an outdoor courtyard where students can gather for lunch or other group events. 

Status as of September 2024

Shade structure components are being set into place in anticipation for shade fabric installation. Over the next couple of weeks, a few concrete pours will finish off the hardscape of the new courtyard and in addition, new pavers will be installed. 

This project is anticipated to be completed by October 2024.

 

Overview

In 2015, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District approved and later completed the Costa Mesa High School Sports Complex, which included a stadium with bleacher seating for 997 spectators, replacing the existing track and field with a synthetic field and rubber track, and providing a press box, concession/restroom buildings, storage building, fencing, and lighting. 

The District is now considering a proposal to expand the seating capacity of both home and visitor sides to a total of 2,000 seats. Both permanent and temporary bleachers are included in the plan. The project is also looking at the feasibility to install new safety netting for the adjacent baseball field, and replacing the tennis courts. 

A construction start date for this project has yet to be established. 

Status as of September 2024:

The Board approved preliminary funding to continue design of the Mustang Field athletic complex and the various components of the approved project.

Overview

This project includes the replacement of elementary school playgrounds to include new playground equipment with shade incorporated into the play structures, and replacement of wood chips with rubberized flooring or artificial turf.

Status

Project is currently in early design and assessment of current conditions at all elementary school campuses. An inventory of existing play structures, and their conditions is being compiled to prioritize play equipment replacement schedule. 

A construction start date has not been determined, however, replacement of all playground structures are to occur over a multi-year effort.
