Well Removal

On September 27, 2024, after several years of successful cleanup efforts, Newport-Mesa Unified School District received the notice for case closure for the underground site cleanup, necessitating the removal of all wells and associated remediation equipment. 

From June through August 2025, construction activity related to well removal will occur. The project will involve the coordinated removal of unused wells and the associated restoration of the affected area.

Removal Phase I: Well destruction in the residential neighborhood is scheduled to occur from Monday, July 14, 2025, through Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

• Week 1 (Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18):
  The wells were successfully drilled and pressure grouted.
• Week 2 (Monday, July 21 – Tuesday, July 22):
  The contractor is scheduled to complete surface restoration, including sidewalks, grass, and asphalt.
