Transitional Kindergarten
Program Overview
Newport-Mesa Unified School District offers a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program. TK is the first year of a two-year program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.
We are dedicated to giving your child the strongest foundation possible for a successful educational journey. Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program aims to achieve the following goals:
- School Readiness
- Cultivating Social Skills
- Language and Literacy Development
- Hands-On Exploration
- Smooth Transition to Kindergarten
Registration
For the 2026-2027 school year, your child is eligible to enroll in TK if his/her birthdate falls between:

September 2, 2021 to September 1, 2022
The registration window for the 2026-2027 school year opens on January 26, 2026 at 1:00 PM. Please visit the Enrollment page for further information regarding registration.
TK/Kindergarten Orientation Dates
Families interested in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten are encouraged to attend an upcoming TK/Kindergarten Orientation. This orientation is an opportunity to hear from the school principal and learn more about the programs, enrollment, and next steps.
