NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT
In order to enroll a new student at Newport-Mesa Unified School District, you must have a valid address within the Newport-Mesa Unified School District boundaries. Visit the School Locator to check that you live within the NMUSD boundaries.
While students enrolled in our elementary programs (TK through 6th grade) will be provided with school placement, openings at some school sites are limited. If any of our schools reach capacity, students may be offered placement at another school where space is available.
Below is a list of documents that will be required as part of the online enrollment process.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- Age Verification (Required): Birth certificate, Birth Record, or Passport
- Immunization Record (Required): Up-to-date (or copy of most recent immunizations)
- Parent/Guardian Identification: government issued with photo
- Proof of Residency (Required):
- One of the following:
- Mortgage Statement with parent/guardian name and property address
- Rental/Lease agreement with parent/guardian name and address, including the property management’s/owner’s contact information.
- Two of the following:
- Tax Receipt (property tax statement)
- Tax Return Document
- Current utility bill (electric, water, or gas dated within the last 90 days)
- Internet/Wi-Fi Service
- We will also accept one of the following documents in lieu of one item from above:
- Current bank statement (account numbers removed)
- Current payroll stub
- USPS Change of Address Confirmation
- If Renting a Room please provide a Residency Affidavit and two items from below:
- Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Car Registration
- Car Insurance Card
- Current payroll stub
- Current bank statement
- One of the following:
- Current Report Card (TK-6) /Transcript (Required for grades 7-12)
- Physical Exam & Tuberculosis Screening: Only applies for preschool, transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade
- Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 (If applicable)
- Custody, Guardianship, Restraining Order (If applicable)

To update your address, please provide the documents listed below to your school site:
- Proof of Residency (Required):
- Two of the following:
- Mortgage Statement with parent/guardian name and property address
- Rental/Lease agreement with parent/guardian name and address, including the property management’s/owner’s contact information.
- Tax Receipt (property tax statement)
- Tax Return Document

ENROLLING AT MONTE VISTA
Students Currently Enrolled in Newport-Mesa Unified School District
If a student is a current NMUSD student, the parent or guardian must notify their current school regarding the request to transfer to Monte Vista Independent Study. The parent or guardian will then complete the current NMUSD 23-24 student transfer form on the Monte Vista Independent Study website. The counselor or principal will connect with the family regarding transfer and any needed documents. Parents may request a conference with the counselor and/or administrator for questions regarding enrollment at Monte Vista and expectations of the program. Please contact the Monte Vista Independent Study office at 949-515-6690 for any questions regarding enrollment, or complete the Monte Vista interest form.
Students New to Newport-Mesa Unified School District
If a student is a new student to the district, they will need to complete the Aeries online enrollment application. When completing the Aeries online enrollment application, new students need to select their residence school for enrollment purposes. Once the enrollment application has been submitted, and completed with all required documents, Monte Vista Independent Study will begin the transfer process. Please contact the Monte Vista Independent Study office at 949-515-6690 for any questions regarding enrollment.
Students served on an IEP or who are English Language Learners will be considered on a case by case basis to ensure that Monte Vista Independent Study is able to meet their educational needs.
Transferring to or From Monte Vista Independent Study
Students can transfer to and from the Monte Vista Independent Study for either virtual instruction (Monte Vista Independent Study) or in-person instruction (home school) within 5 school days of a request or at a logical transition time during the school year.
Residency Requirements
Students enrolled at Monte Vista Independent Study must physically occupy a residence in the designated attendance area for Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
ENROLLING AT EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL
ENROLLING AT EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL
All interested students must apply to ECHS and be accepted before continuing to the enrollment and registration process. The ECHS application can be found at https://earlycollege.nmusd.us/ or picked up at the school.
Students Currently Enrolled in Newport-Mesa Unified School District
If you are already enrolled in the district, and are a continuing student or newly accepted student, please follow this link to begin Online Registration.
Students New to Newport-Mesa Unified School District
If a student is new to the district, they will need to complete the Aeries Online enrollment application. When completing the Aeries Online enrollment application, new students need to select their residence school for enrollment purposes. Once the enrollment application has been submitted, and completed with all required documents, the student will also need to apply to Early College High School. Please contact Early College High School at 714-424-7990 for any questions.
Students served on an IEP or who are English Language Learners will be considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure that Early College High School is able to meet their educational needs.
Transferring to Early College High School
Students requesting to transfer to ECHS will need to apply. Applications are currently available for the 2024-2025 school year. Please contact Early College High School at 714-424-7990 for any questions.
Residency Requirements
Students enrolled or wishing to enroll at Early College High School must physically occupy a residence within the Newport-Mesa Unified School District school boundaries.
