Summer Programs (Summer School)

Summer Scholars Academy

Transportation will be provided for students enrolled in the full day program from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Summer Learning Program

Transportation will only be provided for the morning academic program arriving to school by 8:30 a.m. and leaving Lincoln at 12:30 p.m. Transportation is NOT available for the afternoon enrichment sessions. 

• Post-pandemic funding has ended.

In the years following the pandemic, school districts received significant one-time State and Federal relief    funds. These temporary funds allowed NMUSD to expand summer programs beyond what had historically been offered.

• Those one-time funds are no longer available.

As a result, we are not able to sustain the same level of expanded programming that families experienced in recent years.

• Summer programs are primarily funded through ELOP.

Current elementary summer programs are largely supported through the State’s Extended Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP).

• ELOP funding is legally restricted.

State guidelines require districts to prioritize services for “unduplicated pupils” (UPP), which include English learners, students from income-eligible households, foster youth, and students experiencing homelessness. These requirements are mandated by the State and must be followed in order to receive funding.

• The Board of Education has committed additional local funding.

The NMUSD Board of Education has prioritized available general funds to supplement ELOP funding so we can continue offering academic summer programs to the greatest extent possible, including opportunities for students beyond those funding categories when space allows.

• Programs are reviewed annually.

Each year, NMUSD evaluates student needs, available resources, and long-term fiscal responsibility to determine the scope of summer programming.
