Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nina Glassen as principal of Davis Magnet School.
Dr. Glassen joins Davis with more than two decades of experience in education and a proven record of instructional leadership, student advocacy, and community engagement. Since 2019, she has served as Assistant Principal at Costa Mesa Middle/High School, where she oversaw curriculum and instruction, plus student services. She also helped implement systems to support positive student behavior and academic growth of students in grades 7–12.
Before joining NMUSD, Dr. Glassen spent nine years as a high school social science teacher, then advanced to a district instructional coach and curriculum specialist in Capistrano Unified School District. She has experience shepherding and supporting students as they move from elementary to middle school. Her deep understanding of the factors needed for students to advance successfully to middle school will be an asset to the Davis community as students progress to Costa Mesa Middle/High School. In these roles, she helped develop districtwide assessment systems and supported teachers through coordinated assessments and professional learning opportunities.
“Dr. Glassen is a strong instructional leader with a deep commitment to students, staff, and families,” said Socorro Shiels, Assistant Superintendent of Achievement, Innovation, and Continuous Improvement. “She brings a wealth of experience in curriculum design, student services, and school culture that will help Davis Magnet School continue its tradition of academic excellence. Her collaborative approach and dedication to fostering positive learning environments make her an outstanding choice to lead the Davis community.”
Dr. Glassen earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Concordia University, Irvine; a master’s degree in American studies from California State University, Fullerton; and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego.
In the coming weeks, Dr. Glassen will meet with staff, students, and families to provide a smooth transition into the 2025-26 school year.
