Newport Harbor High School Senior Cash Borggreve was honored with the Meritorious Act Award at the 26th Annual Newport Beach Fire and Lifeguard Appreciation Dinner on September 11, 2024.

While at the beach with his family last summer, Borggreve noticed two young boys caught in a dangerous rip current. Without hesitation, he grabbed his swim fins and rushed into the ocean. Utilizing his water safety training from the Newport Junior Lifeguard Program, he swam to the boys and pulled them to safety.

“His leadership and dedication serve as an outstanding example to his peers and the Newport Harbor High School community,” said David Gibson, Public Information Officer for the Newport Beach Fire Department.

Having grown up in Newport Beach, Borggreve is an avid surfer and member of the Newport Harbor High School water polo team.
