Newport-Mesa Unified School District is partnering with Orange Coast College to provide FREE Dual Enrollment courses this summer, where incoming 9th-12th grade students can get a head start on their college education while earning high school credit. These courses offer exciting subjects like Video Game Development, Architecture, and Social Media Journalism.

Summer 2025 Dual Enrollment Courses

  • Earn BOTH high school and college credit.
  • All courses are FREE & all necessary supplies and technology will be provided.
  • Courses are only open to rising 9-12th grade NMUSD students.
  • All courses will be held on OCC’s campus.

Immersive Video Game Development 1 (FILM A223)
6/23-7/30, M & W, 9am-4pm

An introduction to Video Game Design and Development as it applies to Immersive MediaTechnologies, such as Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), as well as traditional computer games and animated films. Students will learn basic 3D modeling and Game Engine techniques using very powerful design software which is widely used byprofessionals in the industry.

Lunch break from 12-1pm.

College Credit: 3 units, CSU transferable; High School Credit: 5 credits, elective

Architecture: Introduction to Design Fabrication (ARCH A170)
6/24-7/31, T & Th, 9-11am
Taught by Class of 2008 Estancia alum!

This is an introduction to computer-assisted design fabrication, including simple operations and shop safety. Students will have the opportunity to use laser cutters, CNC routers, robotics, a 3-D printer, etc.

College Credit: 1 unit, CSU transferable; High School Credit: 5 credits, elective

Social Media Journalism (JOUR A113)
6/24-7/31, T, W, & Th, 1-4pm

This course in Digital Journalism explores the role of social media in news gathering and branding, providing essential skills for the modern media landscape. Students will learn to create and manage both professional and personal social media presences while working across various platforms. This course earns units toward the Social Media Strategies Certificate of Achievement.

College Credit: 3 units, CSU transferable; High School Credit: 5 credits, elective
