Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

What is the CAC? 

California Education Code (Part 30, Chapter 2, Article 7, 56190 ) requires each Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) to establish a Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC). CAC membership is comprised of parents with students who receive Special Education services, parents with students in general education, district staff from both special and general education, community agency representatives and any community member who is interested in Special Education.

2026-2027 Meeting Dates

All meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the District Office.

How to Prepare for a New School Year

1. Build a Positive Partnership with Your Child's School

Introduce yourself to your child's teacher and service providers early in the school year. Open communication and a collaborative relationship help everyone work together to support your child's success.

2. Share What Works Best for Your Child

You know your child better than anyone. Let the school team know about your child's strengths, interests, communication style, motivators, and any strategies that have been successful at home.

3. Establish Consistent Routines

As the school year begins, create predictable morning, evening, and homework routines. Consistent schedules help reduce anxiety, increase independence, and make transitions easier.

4. Stay Involved in the IEP Process

Review your child's IEP, ask questions when needed, and communicate any concerns or changes with the school team. Your input is an important part of developing and implementing a meaningful educational program.

5. Celebrate Progress—Big and Small

Growth looks different for every child. Celebrate each accomplishment, whether it's learning a new skill, making a new friend, increasing independence, or reaching an IEP goal. Recognizing progress builds confidence and encourages continued success.

Remember: You are an essential member of your child's educational team.

When families and schools work together with trust, communication, and shared goals, students are best positioned to learn, belong, and thrive.
